Let's explain the what, why and how around my self-appointed title: Mutritionist
And what the link is with the marketing thought this week;-)
So, WHAT is a Mutritionist?
It's a question I get often — along with comments like "great title!" or "love the creativity!", usually followed by a few raised eyebrows.
A Mutritionist is, quite simply, a food professional who uses marketing techniques to promote nutritious food concepts.
And when I say "nutritious," I don't just mean healthy, I mean delicious and nutritious. (If you missed my blog on DeliciousNutritious Food / GezondLekkere Voeding, go give it a read!)
WHY profile as a Mutritionist?
Because far too many food concepts today are built around price, convenience, and indulgence, while their nutritional properties often get left behind.
Yet our bodies (and brains!) crave DeliciousNutritious food, food that not only tastes good but also fuels and supports us.
So, my mission as a Mutritionist is to help bridge that gap. To make nutrition a key part of the food story, not an afterthought.
HOW I work as a Mutritionist
All food concepts, brands, categories should include nutrition in their proposition - some louder than others, sure, but it should be there.
My personal focus is on foods that contribute to health. These are often having a rational, functional focus. The challenge here is to infuse them with emotion, taste and playfulness.
Because that's the secret to making DeliciousNutritious resonate.
And what about indulgence products? 🍫🍷 Think sweets, snacks, or alcoholic beverages.
Although not nutritionally rich, they still can be part of a healthy lifestyle - when framed the right way.
For example: Indulgence brands can position themselves as part of the 20% in the 80:20 healthy living principle. They should focus on Customer Lifetime Value instead of just quick wins (increase volume @ customer).
My Mutritionist approach also includes:
✅ Using customer & market insights from market research in the marketing to match customer needs and company offering.
✅ Using 360 marketing that aims to match customer needs and company offering.
✅ Using marketing techniques like means-end-chain, USP & UBR and acknowledged value to match customer needs and company offering.
The marketing thought here is to enrich your marketing management and resources with a Mutritionist, diversifying your commercial team!
